It is 11:30 p.m. the night before my last final and my brain is fried after about 11 hours of studying today. So even though I don’t feel anywhere near prepared it will have to suffice. I should be able to get in another hour of cramming before the test in the morning.

It is -10 outside with a stiff breeze, on its way down to -15. We never even broke 0 degrees today. It seems to have gotten a lot colder a lot sooner this winter than it did last winter. The dogs don’t seem to notice the cold and still demand their walks. I guess it’s okay - it keeps me moving when I would otherwise not venture out of the cozy confines of the house.

I went jogging Saturday morning (back when we had a “warm spell” in the 20s) and ran past some people playing hockey at the local outdoor rink at 7:30 in the morning. There is no mistaking I am in Minnesota!

I cannot believe that there is merely one week left in the semester. This term went by in a blur - it seems like it is over before it even started. But “over” is a bit premature - I had a final and pathology lab test yesterday, and have two more finals and a parasitology lab test between now and next Tuesday. The parasitology final is particularly problematic because it is cumulative, and the number of parasite names, facts, and figures to grasp seems astronomical. In the end, it will probably be an act of survival rather than excelling in my finals, but as long as the outcome is a passing grade I will be satisfied and move on.Of course, just because we’re coming down to the end of the semester doesn’t mean they are going to be nice to us and give us some class-free days to study for finals. No, instead we start “swine core” tomorrow, which an intense 2 1/2 day exploration into everything swine. (more…)
