When we lived in Maine, summers were always a blur - the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day seemed like a non-stop run of filled-up weekends, explosions of tourists, and iffy weather punctuated by the occasional perfect summer day. It will be interesting to find out if Minnesota affords the same time-warp mentality in which it seems the first snow flakes are flying before you’ve even gotten a chance to realize it was summer.

The Sims - Vet School Style Permalink | 845 Comments

Finals, technically, are over, but school isn’t. All this week we are immersed in “behavior core,” in which we learn as much as they can cram in on behavior issues with dogs, cats, and horses. It makes for long lecture days, but it’s kind of nice having to only concentrate on a single subject. Friday afternoon we have the first, and last, test of the behavior course and then we officially become “second years.”

The veterinary class of 2008 had their commencement yesterday. I don’t really know anyone in that class (fourth years are out on rotations, so you don’t really know they exist), but I found myself at the ceremony nonetheless due to the fact that the commencement speaker was Jane Goodall. It isn’t often you get to see and hear a legend in person, so a number of us took the opportunity to drink in the sites and sounds. Watching all the pomp and circumstance, I couldn’t help but think that that will be me up there in just three short years. It’s hard to believe that I am just three weeks away from wrapping up my freshman year. Yes, the time does fly.
