I can’t wait to look back at all this and laugh. But apparently I’ll have to wait a little longer.

On the “good news” side of things, our belongings are out of the garage and into the house. The movers showed up two days after we moved in, after their regular shifts, and carted everything into the house. Of course, that meant we had to spend countless hours unpacking, moving things around, and trying to figure out what to do with all of our stuff. We had a big yard sale before we left Maine and got rid of a lot of stuff, but apparently not enough. So one of our first tasks was a trip to Home Depot to get storage shelves for the basement. Downsizing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“Everything will work out okay in the end…” Permalink | 659 Comments

That’s what our friends and family kept telling us. And so it has. We spent all weekend feverishly tracking down places to rent that would allow three dogs since it appeared our efforts to buy the house in St. Paul were dead in the water. Conclusion: It is amazing the junk you have to live in in order to accommodate your dogs. Suffice it to say that we were seriously considering “losing” a few dogs. Okay, well maybe we weren’t that serious - but it was looking quite bad from a rental perspective.

In a “Mr. Rogers” world, this is how our move to Minnesota would have transpired: 1.) We get an offer on our house in Maine in June and the buyers agree to close in August. 2.) We find a house in Minnesota and close on it about a week after we sell our house in Maine. 3.) Denise finds a good job in Minnesota and starts in the middle of August. 4.) The movers show up in Maine the first week in August, load our stuff, and unload in Minnesota the day after we close on the house in Minnesota. 5.) We live happily ever after.

Of course, as we all know, Mr. Rogers is dead. Here, in a nutshell, minus the endless days of angst and sleepless nights, is how it really went down:
